Holistic Medicine
Holistic medicine is a form of healing that considers the whole person -- body, mind,
spirit -- in the quest for optimal health and wellness.
Holistic medicine is also based on the belief that unconditional love and support is the most powerful healer and a person is ultimately responsible for his or her own health and well-being. Other principles of holistic medicine include the following:
- All people have innate healing powers.
- The patient is a person, not a disease.
- Healing takes a team approach involving the patient and doctor, and addresses all aspects of a person's life using a variety of health care practices.
- Treatment involves fixing the cause of the condition, not just alleviating the symptoms.

Why Holistic Medicine?
I chose to practice Holistic Medicine after I worked and taught in the healthcare and wellness industry for many years, and realized that the human ability to heal itself is severely overlooked in today's healthcare system. Since then, I opened my own wellness and healing center that incorporates treating the body as a whole: mind, body and spirit. I have seen life transformations that will forever be embedded in my mind. Integrative medicine is often a part of what I do, with clients coming from traditional medical doctors for additional help and support. This provides the greatest reward in helping individuals reach balance and live happy, healthy, and productive lives.

This youtube link provides an excellent look into the science of Alternative and Holistic Medicine. I provided this video for the sole purpose of explaining my passion and purpose of teaching, and living a holistic life plan. I hope you gain some insight into this under-represented form of healing.

A Holistic Approach to Education?
I believe my experiences within the medical and wellness community have played a vital role in my development as a strong and progressive medical educator within the healthcare field and with my clients. Holistic wellness has changed the way that I teach, as well as conduct my practice. My students and clients are constantly being challenged to look outside of the disease, and search for the source of the problem. Educationally and personally, this provides my students and clients with greater control over their health and allows them to practice and encourage preventative therapies. Giving the student or client the opportunity to look at the big picture allows them to take more responsibility over the care they provide others and themselves. With the increase in the general public utilizing various forms of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) my goals for the future are to increase the knowledge and use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) within the medical community. I would like to pursue designing asynchronous curriculum for medical professionals to introduce them to the positive effects and contraindications of CAM. I truly believe that both traditional and alternative medicine can work hand in hand to provide preventative and medical care for the general population. Ideally, I would like to be working with the local medical college or local hospitals in designing and implementing such a program.
